We all want to be healthy, to have a healthy body. Our body structure is written in our genes. Everyone has different types of body, some born strong and muscular, some thin and lean.
To make ourselves healthy and our bodies fit, one must exercise regularly and eat a balanced diet. Eating a balanced diet is important, no matter how healthy you become.
Most people work out regularly and take protein supplements to gain mass and muscle. Some people start dieting to lose their body’s extra unwanted fat. But there comes the problem.
Won’t dieting make them lose the muscle mass that they worked so hard to gain? And if they don’t start dieting, how else are they going to lose those extra fats?
Well, it’s simple. People already take protein supplements to gain weight in their muscles. The protein supplements are a part of their regular diet.
What about a protein supplement that would give you lots of healthy natural protein with the benefit of helping you lose fat? Wouldn’t that solve your problem of gaining muscle mass and at the same time, losing the fat you want to get rid of?
Among the many personal care products, only some aid in the process of weight loss.
Whey proteins do just that.
Whey is the liquid remaining after the formation of curds in milk. This watery part is left out as the by-product in the making of cheese or casein.
One of wheys several commercial uses is in the making of whey proteins. Whey proteins is the mixture of the proteins isolated from whey. As a supplement, whey proteins come in three major forms:
1. Whey Protein Concentrate
By percentage, whey protein concentrate has 29-89% protein, varying in different products, with some lactose and fat in the mix. These concentrates generally have more bioactive compounds than refined ones, meaning it has more nutrients and is economically more affordable.
2. Whey Protein Isolate
These proteins are filtered, so they contain less lactose, fat, and cholesterol than whey protein concentrate. Containing more than 90% or more protein. it is fast-digesting and versatile. Soluble in water, it can be a quick source of protein anytime.
3. Whey Protein Hydrolysate
The purest and refined type of protein, whey protein hydrolysate is already partially broken down, making it the easiest to absorb among the three types. It’s fast action and digestibility makes its high price worth it.
Protein digestibility-corrected amino acid score (PDCAAS) is a way to keep score and evaluate proteins based on amino acids requirement fulfilled and the ease of digestion.
Whey protein has the highest PDCAAS, showing that it’s the easiest to digest and absorb by the body with fulfilling the most amino acid requirement. Whey also contains the most branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs).
BCAAs are a group of the three known essential amino acid, amino acids that can’t be produced by the body, called leucine, valine, and isoleucine.
These proteins increase muscle protein synthesis and provide energy for resistance exercises. So, it becomes important to eat foods or supplements containing these amino acids.
The amino acid leucine plays a key role in muscle protein synthesis. This synthesis builds up your muscles, burning calories in the process and stimulates fatty acid oxidation, also known as fat burning. Protein is the best, of all the macronutrients, to make you feel satiated.
So, if you want to cut calories while also feeling satisfied with your diet, proteins are the best choice. And even among different proteins, whey protein makes you more satiated than the rest.
Based on scientific research and experimentation protein supplements showed a lot of potential to help weight loss. Some research suggested:
- To check whether the weight loss was true or just a placebo, a group of dieters was given whey protein supplements while the other placebos for protein. The result, that whey protein eaters clearly indicated that protein helped in weight loss and was not simply a placebo.
- In 2006, a study was conducted between different sources of protein. It was found that adding the same amount of whey protein per day as compared to soy protein or even carbohydrates, led to a greater decrease of body fat and weight.
As many people know, it is hard to maintain the muscle mass gained through rigorous exercises and training regimes while at the same time losing body fat.
This can be done easily, as it has been scientifically proven, by consuming whey proteins. This doesn’t only help you make new muscles but also burn that undesired fat in your body.
Weight loss causes our body to lose calories, which are the fuel of our body. So, the body starts breaking down muscles to use as fuel. Consuming whey proteins will give you that extra protein required.
Casein is another type of milk protein but is different in composition than whey protein, and they’re not interchangeable.
Casein proteins take longer to digest, so whey-based protein is better for workouts. Casein can be taken as a meal replacement or before bed.
What you can do to cut fat properly is maintain a food journal. You might find some things that is not helping you. You can even contact a dietician to help you out. Even after whey protein, you are not able to lose weight, contact your doctor.
In the end, everything is your choice; to lose fat and weight or do not. But one should always try to live a healthy life. Whey protein is one of the best ways to get rid of that extra fat, give your body a daily boost and keep those hard-earned muscle mass the way you want.
